Raul de Souza Generations Band

Raúl de Souza, a world-jazz phenomenon whose unparalleled career spans six decades, is back in the spotlight with a long story to tell: Early success in Brazil, superstardom in the US, with his worldwide hit „Sweet Lucy“, years of obscurity – and now, creative re-birth alongside a young generation of musicians who take his music to new levels!Born in 1934 in Rio de Janeiro, the virtuoso trombonist burst onto the vibrant Brazilian music scene at a young age and played, among many others, with Sérgio Mendes, Airto Moreira and Flora Purim, co-developing the Bossa Nova of the 50s and the Samba Jazz of the 60s. After moving to Los Angeles in 1973, his collaborations with superstars such as Cannonball Adderley, Jack DeJohnette, Herbie Hancock or Jaco Pastorius, to name but a few, culminated in the 1977  worldwide hit "Sweet Lucy", composed by George Duke. Following a number of life’s twists and turns, he moved back to Brazil and maintained low visibility outside Brazil until his contribution to Tom Jobim’s 1996 Grammy-winning album "Antônio Brasileiro" put him on the international map again.  Lately, Raúl, still active as a composer and an astounding trombonist, has been working increasingly with young and highly talented musicians - an equally inspiring encounter for both sides. The Raúl de Souza Generations Band first came together in 2017 for a concert at Jazz Open Hamburg and has since developed their own infectious blend of traditional and contemporary Brazilian Jazz, drawing on the rich legacy of rhythms, melodies and harmonies from this country and the beautiful sound of a two trombone frontline.  This trans-continental encounter unites Swiss born trombonist and arranger CHRISTOPHE SCHWEIZER, piano discovery ALEX CORRÊA from Brazil (* 1981, currently music director with Flora Purim), bassist GLAUCO SOLTER, who has been a member of  Raúl’s musical family for a decade, as is the case with drummer MAURO MARTINS .  The most exciting news for the fans of Raúlzinho and his music however will be that a surprise new album is in the works and due for release in spring 2020! He and the band will be touring worldwide in support of this record also throughout 2020.  Don’t miss the opportunity to book one of the greatest legends alive today whose presence alone charms any audience.
