New upcoming music from La Tempesta Dub. Mellow Mood and producer Paolo Baldini announce Large Dub, set for release on November 30th 2018.
The record, as the title itself reveals, is a collection of dub versions from the Italian reggae band’s latest album, Large, published in last Spring. Paolo Baldini takes off his producer’s tam and sits behind the mixing desk like a real dubmaster wrapping 12 authentic-sounding dub versions. The word “authentic” does not lack context here, since just like the original production, which was characterised by a “live & direct” approach both in the writing and in the recording stages, Large Dub was made following the spirit of the founding fathers of this musical technique when they recorded their dub versions: tracks run separately through the desk’s channels and are orchestrated during one take only, from start to finish, in a purely analog way, with no overdubs or additional computer programming.
Such approach, which transforms technique into art, was certified by the well established format of Paolo Baldini’s DubFiles: that is to say, all the work in the studio was filmed and edited in order to create a proper documentary on the making of the album, which will be entirely available on Mellow Mood’s YouTube channel.
Mastered in Austin, Texas (USA) by Chris Athens (Damian Marley, Erykah Badu, Ghostface Killa) and coming with a luxurious cover by California-based collage artist Dewey Saunders (Chronixx, Anderson .Paak), who also created the cover art for Mellow Mood’s Large and who now “dubbed” the graphics of that previous work, Large Dub will be available on vinyl, CD and all streaming and download platforms.
